Travis' Personal Mission Statement and Worship Tools

Personal Mission Statement:  My personal calling in life is to lead people to an understanding and practice of authentic worship, which causes them to daily search their hearts and lives in order to bring about true change and spiritual renewal by the working of the Spirit as He speaks truth to the individual.  A "true worshiper will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks." (John 4:23, NIV)

I feel I have three main responsibilities, which make up the crux of my ministry.  They consist of an approach to worship: how to make faithful music, authentic worship: the daily sacrifice it requires, and the impact of corporate worship: the continuation of "lifestyle worship."  The following outlines these three responsibilities and what the Lord has shown me are the key components of each in regards to my ministry.

Approach to Worship: Faithful Music Making
  • Ask the question, "For whom am I playing and singing?"
  • Follow the command of Psalm 96, "Sing to the Lord a new song;"
  • Always giving my best to the glory of God alone.
  • Never seek after man's approval
  • I must see excellence for the sole purpose of giving praise to the Father.  I must recognize the importance of why I was created ----- To bring honor and glory to God
Authentic Worship: Daily Sacrifice
  • Romans 12:1, "...offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God --- this is your spiritual act of worship." (NIV)
  • John 4:23-24, "...the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.  God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." (NIV)
  • Psalm 29:2, "Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness." (NIV)
  • I must constantly give myself as a sacrifice, constantly worship in spirit and truth, and constantly seek holiness.
Corporate Worship: Continuation of "Lifestyle Worship"
  • Definition ---- "synergized expression to what we should have been doing all week long: praying, singing, listening, offering to the Lord, speaking, being silent, confessing, growing, and being broken." (Dr. Harold Best, ACDA National Convention, Chicago, Illinois February 27, 1999)
  • A sense of community and harmony
  • A chance to minister to others in need
  • A place to be encouraged and lifted up.
  • A place to be challenged and shaken.
  • I must follow the calling of the Lord and do whatever He commands me to do in regards to leading the congregation.  I must seek Him and listen to His Spirit to keep from hindering a mighty work of God.  I must be sensitive to the needs of the people and yet never waiver from God's plan and direction for the church.
